Alright, finally forced myself to finish Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan. It’s not so much that it was BAD, it’s just super basic. There are some good points, like the awesome food they show in the series. Oh yeah. I liked that.
Shiawase no Pan is based off a popular RPG franchise, and this particular anime series follows Rick, Airy, Neris, and Amil who all run a bakery in a town on a small island. The series starts off as a bit of slice of life as the four run their bakery and meet new and interesting characters. But then problems arise on the peaceful island, and citizens of the town have to defend it.
The biggest problem I had with Shiawase no Pan is that it took forever for any story to get rolling. The first 3/4 of the series is just slice of life, which is okay! I actually liked that a lot and wish it stayed that way. But then the action/ climax got shoved in the last episode and a half, and details were revealed and no one gave a shat. “Oh yeah our island for some reasons sweeps up people from different worlds, erasing their memories altogether! Okay, time to make bread!” WHY NOT.
Loved the character designs though and I liked the large variety of different characters. Although it annoyed me that some characters were introduced for an episode and then never heard from again. But the girls especially were very cute. There is no ecchi, which is really awesome to see a fantasy series not try to rely on the ecchi.
Like I said, it was a basic anime. If Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan was just a slice of life anime and didn’t try to work in a plot, I’d have liked it a lot more. If you’re a big fan of the video games, like fantasy anime, and you like food, then you could give it a shot. Don’t go in expecting a masterpiece though.
