Natsuyuki Rendezvous is such a sweet and calm anime! Ending didn’t make me cry but it totally PULLED ON THE HEART STRINGS. I was satisfied.
Natsuyuki Rendezvous follows Ryousuke Hazuki and the crush he has on the manager at a local florist shop, Rokka Shimao. He eventually works up the nerve to talk to, and ends up getting a part time job at her shop. Upon visiting her in her apartment above the shop, Hazuki realizes that the ghost of Rokka’s dead husband, Atsushi Shimao, haunts the building. We then get to watch Hazuki and Rokka fall in love, while at the same time watching Rokka and Shiamo both come to terms with his death, through some pretty unconventional ways.
I thought the story was super sweet, and I really love these sort of anime, where the characters have to come to terms with something like death. I thought the story lulled a bit about half way in, so I think 11 episodes was actually a great episode count. Sort of bummed you don’t learn a lot about Hazuki. The show definitely focuses a lot of Shimao and Rokka, their relationship and their past together. I also didn’t find it to be at all sad, just bittersweet. Sometimes I like that feeling a lot more than all out sobbing.
I loved how the series seemed to have a really good mixture of realistic art, and then also did the surrealistic bits in the dream sequences. The character designs I felt did a good job in creating good looking men and women. A lot of the time it’s usually just one or the other.
If you like romance, and drama, and ghosts then you should probably watch Natsuyuki Rendezvous.
