Hyouka was GREAT. I really loved it. It was just really enjoyable and fun to watch! I would love, love a second season!
Hyouka follows Houtarou Oreki who doesn’t like to do anything he doesn’t have to. Due to some circumstances he ends up joining the soon to be disbanded Classics Club at his high school. It’s there he meets Eru Chitanda, who seems to be a bit of an airhead but also extremely curious about everything. Soon, Oreki’s friends from middle school also join the club, and the four end up spending their days solving mundane mysteries around the school and their city. While at the same time coming to terms with their feelings about one another.
I loved how Hyouka has a great balance between slice of life and mystery, even if the mystery are just silly little things that happen around them. You get the both of best worlds. I think the height of the series was during the school festival arc, after that it really slowed down which isn’t a bad thing. I personally liked that the last few episodes were a lot of more romance driven between Houtarou and Chitanda. But the episodes before that were a little more exciting with the mysteries. I loved Houtarou and Chitanda’s blossoming relationship, but I’m on the fence with Fukube and Ibara’s. I’d like to have a second season and really see that get developed more.
And OF COURSE since this KyoAni, the animation was amazing and the overall series was just freakin’ beautiful. The eyes man, THE EYES. It was lovely.
So if you’re into slice of life, romance, some neato bits of mystery then check out Hyouka!
